Backfiring through exhaust. Changed out distributor, coil pack, ignition module, crank sensor and finally the PCM. Code P1351 comes back immediately after clearing and still no start and backfires excessively through exhaust.

Good afternoon.

The first thing I would do is check the compression. If the timing chain moved and the engine is out of time, it will do this.

Did it do this prior to all the repairs performed?

Hi Roy,
The compression is at least 160 on each cylinder. It came in as a no start, tried everything listed above. Not sure what to try next.

Okay, verify the firing order on the cap to be sure the wires are not mixed up.

I have done that as well. I also get 0388 code on a long crank. Something is sending high voltage to the crank sensor.

Can you verify that code number? I do not see a 388 code.

High voltage? Twelve volts from the ECM fuse 1 is the feed to the pink wire. You cannot get more than battery voltage.

Are you talking about the pink wire going all the way to the coil? I am sorry I think the code is P0388, high voltage to crank sensor.

I have checked Alldata and Mitchel and cannot find the 388 code.

Where did you get that information?

Yes, the pink wire goes to the coil, cam and crank sensor.

Take the distributor back out. Turn the rotor 180 degrees and put it back in.
