To start with I have a 2002 S10 ZR2 pickup with all the option offered. I installed a Blazer roof console w/ the compass and temp. Feature works great. Also changed the floor console from the Blazer into my truck so it has a floor shifter. It took a while to figure the wires out to make the lights in the dash to work correctly [P R N OD D 2 1 ] but I did and also hooked up the lock that stops you from pulling it out of gear before you put the brake on. After all this and 200 more miles with no problems I found out I can turn my truck off and pull the key out with the truck in drive. I did take off all the column shift hardware and replaced the column cover with a solid one without the shifter hole. Also my cruise control has not worked since I did the change over. I have changed the cruise unit on the firewall with no luck. I have a NOS column switch but I don't know if that will fix the cruise or not. I don't know what to look for to fix this problem and where to start. Please help!

Normally because of the module this has to be scanned to find out what is wrong but check brown wire pin 41 to see if it gets power and power to the multifunction switch. See pic. Then apply the brake and see if power goes through purple wire. Or see If purple wire is hot all the time as it shouldn't be. However it still may need scanning. Of course screwing around with column you may have cut the brown wire leading to cruise.

I got the under dash all torn out and changed the lever unit. The module I removed from a working truck that I drove and tested so I think that part is OK. When I did the change over I did not cut any wires at all. The gear shift lever just bolts on the side of the column. Then has a shaft going down to the cable linkage. This area has a solenoid that controls shifter lock which stops you from putting it in gear without hitting the brake first. I have power to the module on pin 41 and power to the brown wire going to the switch. What would be my next step to look at? Also where is this neutral switch at on the column?

Get it scanned for cruise it may or may not show anything.. As far a neutral switch lthe cable operated floor shifter uses a neutral switch on the trans and your column one uses it at bottom of column so this truck will start in any gear not only drive. Apply brake as well like I said in first reply

Sorry but maybe I'm not understanding this correctly. Did a scan, no problems, but is this switch inside the truck or outside? It has been raining and I can't really get into it. I did notice when I grabbed and turned the brake switch I would hear the shifter lock solenoid click. That is without the key on.

The neutral switch on a column type is on the steering column on the floor shift type it's on the transmission your truck will start in any gear. Because your truck you can shut it off an dit still runs with key out is because you have screwed up something in the column like the ignition switch. Item 40 in pic is neutral switch item 57 is shift interlock on a column shift. A floor shift column does not have those items. It has an entirely different set up.

OK part 57 I did remove but I took the plug and wire and ran a longer wire to the console and plugged it into the same kind of switch on the console shifter and it works. But part 40 I will have to look at the old parts I have left over. But does this problem have anything to do with the cruise? Now part 57 has to do with having to hit the brake before shifting out of park is all this correct? I appreciate your time with me, due to my stroke I am a little slow in understanding.

Regardless of moving part 57 it really doesn't matter because your truck thinks it 'sin park so will start in any gear. Like I said it's a completely different setup for a floor shift as far as the column goes. You have jury rigged your truck to make it work an dit's not going to work right as far asstarting. For the cruise I said to get it scanned to see if anything comes oup on that. I have no further comments or suggestions.
