I just installed a clutch kit myself in my '89 2wd 2.4L ext cab. I must admit it was a heck of a job for one person, but turned out well. The cost of the kit was only $120 (including pressure plate, throwout bearing, and disc). Even after 236k miles, my flywheel was in decent shape, so I didn't replace it.

I did get a couple of quotes for around 3-4hrs labor time to install the kit for me (i.E. $300-350 or so), but I was too cheap to pay for it. After the fact though, I would let someone else tackle this job unless you have a lift and/or some help.
