1998 Nissan Sentra Car won't turn over

Just replaced the head gasket, had the head shaved, car turns over and sounds like it'll start but doesn't. Replaced spark plugs, getting spark, and getting gas to the spark plugs. Just cannot figure out what is missing. Battery is strong.

Did you put the engine no.1 piston on its compression stroke and rotor pointing to no.1 cap tower when you installed the distributor-

Sounds like the valve timing is off check the cam and crank alignment-
