Electrical problem
2007 Nissan Micra 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 24.000 miles

Three times in last week after my car has been parked outside my home I've found that car is unlocked despite checking that car was locked when I left it. At other times central locking works fine. So would this intermiitent fault be detected by diagnostic check or is a third party unlocking doors - nothing has been stolen.

So what should I do?

Hi willycan2,

Thank you for the donation.

When doors were unlocked, was the security system disarmed or just the locks were unlocked?

If the doors were unlocked with the security disarmed, possible causes are :

1. The remote had been acidentally depressed to unlock after locking or the remote switch is loose and movement of the remote can cause the system to be unlocked.

2. 3rd party unlocking. Though the chances are remote, the same frequency could be used by someone else nearby and when they gtried tyo lock/unlock their vehicle, your vehcicle would be affected as well.

If the doors were unlocked with security system still armed, possible cause could be due to a fault in the lock/unlock switch. If could be out of adjustment and vibrations to the vehicle due to movements of heavy machinery or wind can cause the door lock to unlock.

I n 1 did you mean loose switch on remote control ( on key fob)or in car itself- in that first case I could use the spare car fob and see if that works?

Could car have been unlocked as a prank by youngsters? ( Alarm was disabled at time doors were unlocked.)

Any ideas how I could solve this issue?

Cheers john

I mean the fob. The switch tends to weaken over time and sometimes would be triggerred when there is minimal contact on the button.

Test the fob by applying minimal pressure on the button to see if it locks or unlocks.

I don't think it is the work of pranksters as it is not easy to have the same frequency remote to unlock and disarm the system.

If your system can be reprogrammed, try doing so and see if problem persists.
