2006 Nissan Altima Engine Control Module

My question is this, can the ECM cause a shortage in the brain of the engine that will throw off or disable warning lights and signs? Reason why, is my car recently blew the # 1 piston through the engine and it caught on fire and burned to the ground. I contacted Nissan and they told me that I had a recall on the car which had to do with the ECM. Since the ECM was defected, could this have caused the oil to drop below a level in which the piston would break though the engine and cause the fire?

No it would not cause the this. The engine was either using oil or loosing it this is why it got low. Probably just high mileage engine that was tired.

The car never gave notice it was running low on oil, or that the car was ever low on oil. What I meant to say was, would the ECM recall have an affect on the warning lights that are suppose to come on?

Or do you think that the ECM Recall has nothing to do with my engine piston going through the engine and causing the fire?

No I don't think that the PCM had anything to do with it. You do need to check oil from time to time so you can monitor how much if any oil you are using. Now the oil light would have only come on when the oil was low enough to cause the oil pressure to drop anyway and by then it would have been to late. I hate to say it but I don't think the two are related. I did find a seperate issue however that does have to do with oil consumption. What the dealer was to do is change oil and filter and have you come back in a designated time and if the oil was lower then normal they are to replace the engine. It is listed with bulliten number NHTSA #PB023/06-223. Hope this helps.

OK thank you for all the help. My only was that Nissan Northwest stated my recall was for the ECM and had nothing to do with the oil, even though the car caught on fire. I was just curious if my recall had anything to do with the fire. Because Nissan came back with, no conclusion on the fault of the fire, other then it was not their faults.
