I bought my car at an action two years ago. About three months ago my tachometer stopped working. I replaced my battery about two days ago and noticed that it started working. However, I started driving it today and the same problem came back. The tachometer would show my speed, then jump to 80mph, and the to 110mph, but then it would just fall off the speeds. It goes the opposite direction. I also noticed that my car would start getting hot when the speedo stops working. My tranny is fine, but this problem is really confusing me, please help! Thanks

Hi AIMMERS,

You are confusing me, is it the tachometer or speedometer?

If it is the speedometer, it most probably is the speed sensor tat is faulty.

If the tachometer is erractic, the coil might not be transferring the signal, either coil or wiring problem

The meter cluster could also be faulty if the temp gauge is not registering accurately, either loose connections or the circuit board is not conducting well at some point.
