I recently bought a second 1993 Altima as a project car with the intention of replacing needed parts from the Altima that I already had (accident victim!). The new Altima had a wiring problem where a bundle of wires that are routed over the drivers side wheel well had fallen and was rubbed raw by the front wheel . (For some reason, somebody had removed the wheel well covers from both front wheels.) It appears that a bundle of wires coming from the firewall side of the engine came into a connector that split the wires going to the front of the car. My guess would be lights and other devices sharing the same supply. I painstakingly rewired the bundle using connectors from the old car, paying close attention to matching wire-to-wire. I now have a problem that the engine won't shut off when I pull the key!! (I have to pull the fuel pump breaker to shut the engine down.) Now - it looks to me like someone has done this before just by the way the breaker and surrounding area looks. It doesn't make sense to me that the rewiring that I did would cause this. Does any of this make sense???

Hi dadelar,

When the engine won't cut off, it means power is still being supplied without the ignition switch being on.

Some people likes to put a timer to cut off after key is pulled out, I don't know for what reasons other than wasting fuel, so check and see if the engine cuts off say after 1 or 5 mins.

A faulty ignition switch is also possible.

Other than the above, I can only think of improper wiring. You need to check the power source after the key is turned off.
