I bought this car from this girl who was moving to Carolina from Connecticut it is a sc2 twin cam, five speed manual, and the car is beautiful. It has the headlight that comes up and all that sweet stuff, but I was told that Saturn's do not burn gas, well that is the least of my problems. This Saturn after I first bought it was reading that the coolant was low so I added coolant to it, and then it the temperature gauge was saying it was overheating so I discovered by putting the AC on the fan would kick in and cool down the engine, so I decided to change the coolant temperature sensor and the fan switch I believe so now when the gauge goes close to the red spot of the thermometer gauge the fan kicks in on its on. I bought a thermostat for it would that fix my problem, and I am guessing that could give me better gas mileage as well?

So which position did you put the coolant temperature sensor in top or bottom? Also same with the gauge sensor top or bottom? Also is the one connector on top and the two wire on the bottom? I have seen the fan turn on the tip of the red due to worn gauges or bad coolant temperature sensor. I go by actual coolant temperature to see which is the case.

Well I actually replaced both the fan switch and the coolant sensor and as far as where I put the coolant sensor I believe that model only has one and I replaced it I asked the auto zone guy and that model only Carries one so replaced the coolant temp sensor and the fan and btw they re both the same thing, and by that I mean they use that same component that little sensor to do both but unfortunately I haven't had the chance to change the thermostat yet because as I was driving the car the tail pipe or resonator corroded and fell off it came off from the catalytic converter from the front muffler and well my new question is this would anyone know of a place whether online or store where I can purchase a really cheap tail pipe by that I don't mean a used one but a fair price I've checked with summit and so far they're the cheapest I can find online for 69 bucks? Lol I guess it's cheaper than auto zone's 102 bucks but if there's a place where I can get one for under 50 I would greatly appreciate it?

You put you have a 1994 Saturn Astra the Astra didn't come out till 2008 that replaced the Saturn ion. So I thought you had a Saturn S model which the 1994 Saturn S model has two sensors one on top for the gauge and one on the bottom for the computer. So what Year and model Saturn do you have and I will do my best to help you out.

There are two sensors on that engine so what I was talking about early with the sensors I would be checking that out So your looking for the pipe between the cat and muffler?

So the gauge sensor went in the top hole in the head and the coolant temp sensor went in the bottom hike of the? Also the single wire connector went to the top sensor and two wire connector went to the bottom sensor? Also usually when the thermostat goes bad on those cars they run colder then normal. The seals fail and they let coolant flow before the thermostat even opens.

Well there are two sensors on that engine there's one that s easy to get to and that's the fan switch below that switch if you look down at the bottom of the engine is the temperature sensor a little bit harder to get to those are the only two sensors that car has. Yea I am looking for the tail pipe resonator which is connected from the front muffler and the back muffler.

The top sensor with one wire is for the temp gauge reading and the bottom one with two wires is to tell the computer the temperature of engine coolant.
