The first question is why would my dipstick pop out?

My check engine light will come on when I am just cruising for a few seconds (usually when I am slowing down, foot off the accelerator) and the car begins to run bad (maybe too lean?). Once I turn it off and on again it runs fine and the light goes away. I pulled a code while it was in diagnostic mode to see if I could find anything but the only code that flashed was a code 24 for my VSS.

The only gauge that doesn't work is the turbo gauge and the previous owner installed another one because its running 14 psi right now. I was wondering if my EGR valve could be the problem?

Today when I pulled into work and popped the hood the dipstick had came up again. On start up the engine was a bit louder now. Sounds like it is coming from the exhaust manifold when I revved it but I am not 100% certain.

Hello,

The dipstick popping up out of the tube sounds to me like you could have a problem with your vehicle's Positive Crankcase Valve (PCV). This system is designed to move all the oily air out of your vehicle's crankcase and introduce them into the intake manifold where it is burned as a part of the normal combustion process. Your vehicle's PCV valve should be in the valve cover and have a tube or hose going to the throttle body. It should have a one way check valve consisting of a ball inside that the engine vacuum sucks to open the valve. If the ball doesn't move when you shake the PCV then it's bad and needs replacing. I have included an inspection instructions in the diagrams down below. The Boost gauge is connected into your vehicle's vacuum system and reads boost and vacuum of the engine. Please get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex
