Engine in my truck is no longer working. Too much conflicting information on web to make informed decision as to what motor to purchase to replace it. Can a 2007 4.0L Ranger/Explorer/Mustang be used, keeping existing manifolds, wiring harness and other items from original vehicle?

Short answer is no. However, it can be done. Clearly the engines are basically the same but you are going to have to extend wiring harnesses and potentially relocate some brackets because they are not identical.

This is pretty typical with most engine swaps but your mounting of the engine and mating of the transmission should not be an issue and those are the major things that need to be worked through. Once it is in there, just running wiring and getting things to fit right is not that big of a deal.

I say all that, but just be prepared to work through some issues because that always happens when doing these things.

Thanks for the response. Are you aware of any online documentation or write-ups that exist for someone doing a swap similar to mine? I have a potential 2010 4.0L donor motor that I would like to use.

Unfortunately these types of documents are not produced because as you can imagine the options are endless and there is no way to produce something for all of them. You best bet is to just do an internet search to see if anyone did this already. I did one and didn't find one into a Mazda however, I don't think you are going to run into issues that you will not be able to overcome.
