Sputters on Acceleration

I have a 1999 Eclipse non-turbo. When I accelerate I get a sputter and lack of power. I thought it could be the fuel filter so I replaced that. It is still doing it. Could you provide a little direction on what I should check from here?

Start with ignition. Has it been tuned up recently? New plugs, wires (if applicable). Might even be an ignition coil breaking down, but take care of the basics first

Thanks for the help. When looking for the coil I see the spark plug wires hook directly to it. Do I not have a distributor on this car? If not how does this work? Do a lot of the newer cars not have distributors?

Yes, it is quite common for there not to be a distributor. The PCM sees the engine turning via the cam and crank angle sensors and fires the coil at the appropriate times
