95 Mitsubishi Mirage alternator belt

1995 mitsubishi mirage 107,000mi. 1.8 liter. Last week the alternator belt began squealing. It did this for about a week and then broke. I put a new one on. It started to squeal again, so I tightened it each time, but then it would start to sqeal again a little bit later. It lasted for about 4 days and then broke. What's going on? I noticed it squeals a little more when the heat is on.

Did you spin all the pulleys it goes on to be sure nothing is coming apart? Sounds like abearing is going out somewhere on the front of the engine

You may have a V type belt.
Do you adjust the belt tension?
