2001 Other Mitsubishi Models timing belt

should I repair? My mechanic says I need a new timing chain. He also said that it might not solve my problems as I could have further issues with a cylinder. Does that sound right? We drove the car home, no odd noises or lights and turned the car off in the driveway. When we went back out to start it a day later, the engine ligts came on and it wouldn't start.
