Hi guys,

Heres the story I have a '92 Mitsi 3ltr GT3000 (GTO) Non-Turbo.

I have been given the chance to remove the twin turbo's and intercoolers from another Identical engine (other than factory fit turbos). I will only get half a day or so to remove the parts I need.

I want to make my car the twin turbo version.

Question 1, What parts do I need to take off the other car? I wanna leaving the other car running as a non-turbo.

Question 2, will I be able to just bolt these components onto my engine to make it a twin turbo?

Question 3, What parts will I have to take from my engine and put on the other to keep it running as a non-turbo, ie the air box and inlet piping. Is the inlet manifold different?

Hi derek,

You are going into the Guiness book of records if you can pull off the stunt.

Turbo and non turbo engines have different compression ratios and pistons.

Exhaust and inlet manifolds, air cleaner hoses, ECM are the normal things needed to come off. The injectors are of different calibrations.

You can bolt on the turbo, but you are goiing to blow the head gaskets or engine if you try to race drag the engine.

Cheers mate, thats saved me a headache, I wont bother trying. So Im guessing that the compression is lower in the turbo engine to cope with higher revs etc?

So putting the turbos on a non-tt engine would end up being quicker and more powerful than an original twin turbo but would most likely blow right?

Hi derek,

You can bolt a turbo onto a non turbo engine but you cannot boost it up to turbo specs, anything more than 0.3 bar would blow the engine easily. It would also cause premature wear as the pistons, valves, gaskets etc are not made for high boost.

Lower compression is to cope with higher compression when boost is available.
