how do I get the rear drum off to change the brake shoes

Without knowing what model it is, general info is all I can give. So, some drums have a few screws holding them to the axle flange, you need to remove those is you have them, then other models have wheel bearings. In all cases, you may have to back off on the adjuster from behind the drum on the backing plate, there will be an cutout with a rubber plug, pull out the plug, use a brake spoon and a pick, the pick is to hold the adjusting lever out of the way while you turn the starwheel adjuster.
