2000 Mitsubishi Mirage NEW BATTERY

I am replacing the battery on my 2000 mitsubishi mirage and taking it to get smog check but the mechanic said he cant do it since the battery was replaced I need to follow some steps to set the computer. What does he mean and can anyone explain to me how to reset the computer once I have changed the battery?

If you disconnect the battery then you must drive the vehicle to enable the engine control module (ECM, or computer) to relearn driveability. This is normally a set amount of miles, to get the exact mileage to relearn the ECM driveability, contact your local Mitsubishi dealer.
