I have a 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage DE 4-door sedan. Today I had a mechanic tell me that I needed a hydraulic lifter adjustment. The engine is making a 'growling noise' in the morning while it is cold. After it gets heated up, it is fine.

My question is - how important is it to have this adjustment made?

Thanks -

HI there,

The valve clearance is very important to maintain a good tune and as the valve wears and beds into its seat the clearance can decrease with out correct clearance you can burn a valve and this is an expensive repair, have the clearances adjusted, just one thing, these according to Michell are manual adjusted rockers and not hydraulics, hydraulics don't get adjusted.
