Hi, there! I am about to change the timing belt and some people recomend changing the water pump too. But this one is way more expensive than the timing belt. Is this really necessary? Is the water pump activated by the timing belt or by other means? When changing the pump, will removing the engine be necessary again?
at this time, the water pump is working just fine.
thank you very much. this car has the 2.4 lt engine.

the opposite is very true, if replacing water pump then go ahead and replace timing belt as well.

for your repair, its really not necessary at all to replace the water pump if your replacing the timing belt unless the pump is bad. the water pump is NOT a regularly maintenanced part like the timing belt is, so only replace it if it has failed or begins to fail.
