The car will go into 1st gear without grinding if the RPMS drop below 1000, and into 3rd gear if you hit it just right. The car does not move whille in gear with clutch depressed. Is this 1st and 3rd gear problem a gear sinc issue or a clutch issue? IF it is a gear issue can it be repaired ( for less then the cost value of the car ). How do you confirm that the clutch is still working properly.

Note it goes into reverse 2nd and 4, 5th with no issues.

Well 1000 RPMS is kind of high to go from idle, car in neutral to 1st gear. But I suppose it should work.

Some folks test the clutch for slipping (pressure plates worn out) by putting it in first, rev it up real high while in gear clutch out-car moving, then stomp on brakes with car still in gear reved high and now feel if the engine wants to over power the brakes. Or you can brake it with the trans to feel if it slips.

But if your cvlutch slave or master cylinder is worn out, the problem is the car is not clutching and that makes it hard to shift. Look for a real high pedal travel.
