How does the left rear tail light assembly come off to be changed?

Open the liftgate and look for the two screws that hold the taillight assembly in place. Remove the two screws and place them in your pocket or somewhere safe. Remove the assembly from the rear pillar by pulling it backward. Be careful not to scratch your Villager's exterior paint.

I just did this replacement on my 95 Villager and, I'm sorry to day, bluelightin6's answer is incorrect.

If you get a new assembly you will see three screws coming out of the back. Open the access panel that is used for replacing the bulbs and by feeling around, you can find those screws. They are held in with nuts. One I was able to get a nutdriver on to remove. Two of them are very difficult to reach. I wound up breaking off those two but it didn't matter since I had the new unit (Amazon had a great price).

The new one was much easier to get in. It was possible to reach in and hand tighten the nuts - push in on the assembly to make it easier. I only retightened one nut with a driver.
