Radio turns off when in gear!

I have a 97 mercury sable, every time I put the car in gear the radio turns off, put it in park it comes back on. Can you help?

Bigdaddy,
Just when ya think you've heard it all. Along comes bigdaddy. Gremlins? Kidding! Is the radio the factory installed? Or an aftermarket install? Floor shifter or column shifter? Was any dash work done previously? The more info the better!

I had the same problem with a 1996 sable. I changed the nuetral safety swith and the problem went away
