Need to have front coil springs replaced. Estimates on this is from 335 to 350 by 4 shops. 2 shops say struts should be replaced at the same time because removing the springs often causes damage to struts. 2 say they replace springs all the time with no damage to struts. Difference in estimates with strut replacement 950.

A note on Springs.

Unless the car is collapsed to the point where you can hardly see the tires under the vehicle, they are probably fine.

However, it is so much easier to replace units in these all in one kits that come from Monroe Sensatrac. I did one myself, but I wouldn't recommend it for the novice, especially since the lower pinch bolt can tend to break off, if not properly heated before removing.

In the short run, you save a lot of money, especially if your only planning on keeping the car another five years. But if it looks good, and runs good, go for the Springs too, in the kit, and save on the labor both now and in the future.
