1998 Mercury Sable The car is running rough

I jsut bought a 1998 Mercury Sable and I noticed that when I was at a stop that it was running a little rough and then the check engine light came on for a few min. But went off again. What cuold be the problem I was thinking that it needed a tune up!

You have a problem within the engine management system -you need to scan the computer for code/s this is your starting point finding out what's causing the light to come on.

Could be an IACV, TPS and MAF sensor problem

Abou how much does that cost and is ot going to hurt to drive my car, I just wanted tro make sure I know that Sables have probleems with there transmission and I wanted to make sure it wasn't that

Go to autozone and check if they still scan for codes for free.
