1997 Mercury Sable Coil

I am considerng buying the above car from an elderly man. He says it has not been registerd for 2 years as it needs a new coil patch or tune up. It did not pass Smog Inspection. The test said "random misfire". He is asking way below Blue Book. Does this make sense to you? I have never heard if a coil patch, I have heard of ignition coil. Is that expensive to replace?

Its a coil pack
it should not be a lot of money under $ 100
u should do a tune up too

In general not a bad car
if you have the 3.8L engine
they had headgasket issue
u may wont to consider having it checked by a locale shop
its not a bad job to do
