1993 Mercury Sable Sable stalls when coming to a stop downh

Mostly when fuel level is low ( ~ 1/8 tank ). When breaking to a stop while traveling downhill it will either stall or sputter. The check engine light comes on followed by the battery light which I assume is due to the stall condition. IS this a crappy design that cannot gather fuel in these conditions or is some part of the fuel pump gathering hardware faulty?

I would try to reproduce the problem with a computer on it and get the codes checked, however I suspect this is just a poor design you have been able to display several times. With the fuel level low going down hill and stopping all the fuel is at the front of the tank. If the pick-up tube is in the middle to rear of the tank, and not right on the bottom then it can't pick up any fuel.
