2000 Mercury Mystique 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
I have to replace the timing belt for my vehicle. After taking off the serpentine belt and wheels for the serpentine belt, I have made it to the bottom wheel that I can't seem to take off. The manual that I purchased said I needed to take apart my starter and get to the fly wheel and jam a screwdriver in it to get the serpentine wheel to stay still so I can get it off with a 18mm socket; however, the engine is so compact, that I can't get anything in there to lock up the fly wheel. On top of that, with as tight as the bolt is on that wheel, I worry that I'll break whatever I stick into the fly wheel, and then have to take apart the starter to get to it. I've tried sticking a screwdriver into one of the holes of the serpentine belt wheel and using the car's frame for leverage while trying to loosen the bolt, but it is on there tight. Any suggestions?
have the same problem?
