I have a 2000 mercury mystique and I am in the navy. My car sat for 6 months while I was deployed and I recently got back. I have run into the problem that I will drive my car and intermittenly it will just cut off. The electric still works but the engine dies. I will let it sit for a few minutes and it works fine after that. Any ideas where to start, I've already changed the plugs and wires and cleaned the throttle body.

Need to check for fuel pressure and spark when it dies. Also have the PCM scanned to see if it stored any trouble codes that will help in finding the problem Check for a vacuum leaks
check throttle body and idle control valve and clean
if the battery was disconnected
take it for a long drive for the idle to be relearned by the PCM
