My car just developed this problem on Thanksgiving. Very hard to start and stalls if you don't hold open the throttle. I can drive the car but I must put car into neutral and race the engine to keep it from stalling while at a stop. Almost feels like something is choking it. When driving, car runs OK, but seems to have some power loss. Car facts: 85K miles, 4.6L V8, CEL off, no prior problems.

Sounds like an air bypass valve...also commonly called an idle air control valve...pretty easy to replace. It controls your idle speed and will stick and cause them to not idle without the gas pedal being held down.
