1989 Mercury Marquis heater/defrost

Heater problem
1989 Mercury Marquis 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When the heater is on it blows out a lite, white mist or smoke and has a peculiar stale/exhaust like smell. In addition, the defrost does not blow out at all.

The mist is steam escaping from the heater core, this means there is a hole in it and it must be replaced, fixing the defrost door while the heater core is removed will be easy. It probably needs lubrication on the shaft.
