Engine Cooling problem
1999 Mercury Cougar Automatic 144000 miles

We recently took our vehicle in for repair. The water pump was changed. After starting it back up, it had a leak, and it was transmission fluid. The fluid is to the top of the shaft where the dip stick inserts. What could cause this problem

The transmission vent hose is probably blocked. Your model mercury has a poorly designed transmission vent hose on it. It may have been disturbed or blocked when they repaired your car. If that vent hose is blocked the transmission fluid will blow out the dipstick due to the pressure.
