1986 Mazda RX7 water pump

I have an 86 rx7 as well as an 88 rx7 convertible. I replaced the water pump from the 86 with the one from the 88. Mazdatrix told me they are the same for those car models. Now my question is when I took the water pump out of my 86 it was facing down now the 88 water pump only fits if you face it upwards? Could this be why my car wont start properly

Hi there,

this may affect the capability of the water pump to work efficiently, but it won't affect the starting of the engine, I would start of with checking the engine tune first do the simple things first.
