I put oil in my engine yesterday and when I parked it today after driving it was smoking and the lid to where the oil is put in blew off with oil spewing out of it.

Sounds likes you have compression in the cylinders escaping somehow (faulty piston rings, scratches in the cylinder wall, ect.) Into the crank case, in turn pushing oil through the filler. Have compression tested at all cylinders to ensure proper compression.

The smoke was just the oil burning off of the headers and such after it had been pushed out.

Hope this helps.
