hi my check engine came on about 3 weeks ago and I took it to autozone and it read that I have a faulty catalytic converter and when I took it to the mechanic he said that it wasnt that serious and I could wait a while to get it fixed and today the check engine light began flashing and the car started putting and I heard some knocking in the engine and I immediately took it to the mechanic but they cannot look at it until tomorrow afternoon can you please tell me what you think could possibly be wrong with it

The catalytic converter may be plugg.

Prolonged overheating or short term severe overheating are the leading causes of catalytic converter plugging. The underlying cause here is often fouled or misfiring spark plugs, or a burned exhaust valve that leaks compression and allows unburned fuel to pass through the combustion chamber into the exhaust.
Replacing just the converter may solve the problem for awhile.
Ask the mechanic the leading cause of the catalytic converter faillure.
