I am original owner of 1998 175 HP 626 ES with 50,000 miles. Recently drove and noticed temperature gauge all the way over to HOT. I read what the possible causes could be on other FAQs. Here's mine: It has been extremely cold here lately (below 32 F). If I try to drive it to the service center (approx. 5 miles away) what are the risks of the engine block cracking?

If its running in the HOT I wouldn't drive it anywhere. Better safe than sorry, have it towed.

What if there is no coolant, or if the t-stat is stuck closed, or the belts have come off?

If its running in the hot get it towed.

Thanks, Cosmo. Let me be more clear. The therm starts out cold and after driving about 2 miles it is shifting over to HOT. Can I drive it to the repair center without incident?
