Putting an 08 LY6 into a C1500, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the rear end. Should I buy a whole new assembly, or would I be able to strengthen it by changing internals? At very most will make 600hp. Could you give me a couple options, budget and just too much?

Let's take a step back and confirm what rear end you currently have in the truck.

I am attaching the info below on how to identify the axle.

The only axle that you would need to consider changing is if you have the 7 5/8 corporate axle.

If you have the 8 5/8 or the Dana rear end, then you will be fine.

You can change the gearing in it if you want to just to get different performance.

Take a look at the attached and let us know what you have and then we can go from there.

Thanks
