1994 Lincoln Mark VIII 1994 Mark VIII tranny problem

My mark viii is acting up for the first time since ive had it. When I crank it and put it in gear while still cold tranny goes in first gear I put it in and if I shift it out to another gear it does nothing doesn't move just revs like im in neutral. Some say it need to be rebuilt. Some say its the converter. And also had a few tell me its my front pump? I need to know what it is so I can fix. Any input would be greatful.
