I'm replacing the lock actuator on this SUV listed above and am on the 99 yard line. I have the actuator unbolded, the latching mechanism unbolted, the yellow clips on the side latching rods unclipped but there is another rod, the one that connects the latch handle on the outside of the lift gate to the latching mechanism inside the door. It is also attached with a "clip" but, for the life of me, I can not figure out how this clips works, that is, I can not determine how it 'unclips', can not see a 'tab' or a hinge side on the clip, can not tell if it opens up, down, inboard or outboard. Can you provide advise, or a picture of this plastic 'quick disconnect' clip? I don't want to break it. Again, its rod that connects the interior mechanism to the exterior flipper handle. With this problem overcome, I can remove the mechanism and replace the actuator (rod) then reassemble.

Sorry for the delay. I have been looking for a while on a how to video and cannot find one where someone is showing that being taken off. However, you simply release it with a screw driver. If you slide the flat head screw driver in and turn it, it will pop open.

I attached a picture of one showing how it is open on one side. Hopefully this will help understand how it comes apart.

Let us know if you still can't get it and we will see if we can find more detail. Thanks

Thanks loads, yes, I probed it with a small screw driver several times but could not get leverage. I gave it one more try last night and had a brainstorm: Where as the original lock actuator was one piece with rod attached, the replacements units usually come with several 'control rods' which you can snap on depending on which door you are installing the unit in. So. I took a hack saw blade, inserted into the tailgate interior and was able to cut off the original rod near its 'hook' end making it able to be 'looped out' of the anchor hole in the latching mechanism. Then I was able to slip in the new appropriate rod and then snap I to the new actuator motor, Installed, and then fastened back all the bolts I took out of the mechanism. Mount, adjusted window catch for proper fit/interface with the glass and re installed the interior trim. Job completed without ever removing the entire lift gate latch mechanism. Mind you, I practiced the "think technique" and several sessions of reading, videos, probing the tailgate and such before I was confident and pulled the trigger. Thanks for your input.
