My car is now burning about 1 qt to 500 miles, at 100000 miles it was a bit less than a quart per 1000 miles, so it is definitely gotten much worse. What should I be doing at this point. Is repalcing the engine my only option and when do I need to do it?

Perform a cylinder test. If results are bellow specs add a teaspoon of oil to each cylinder one at a time and recheck the compresssion.

Does this bring it up to specs? If so suspect worn piston rings.

If thats not it check for leaky seals and gaskets and possible worn valve guides and seals.
