I had to have my engine replaced at 200000 miles. It now has a used engine with 48000 miles on it. It runs smoothly and I have no problems at all; until I remove the gas cap. The car stalls and is difficult to get back running but if you hold the gas pedal down for a while it smooths out and the car continues running smoothly. I dont' know if this will help but when I remove the gas cap I can hear a lot of air (which has never happened until the used engine was installed)
Do you
have the same problem?

The pressure is normal when you remove the cap. As far as the engine dieing, the only thing I can think of is releasing the pressure from the tank is allowing too much fuel to reach the engine. What you could do is check the fuel pump pressure when the engine is running and then remove the cap to see how it reacts.
