We keep having to replace the knock sensor on my son's car listed above. The po325 code goes away after putting new sensor in. Then 2 or 3 days later the code shows back up. What would be causing the knock sensor to go bad.

We have replaced it 4 times and I’ve put a new connector harness on also.

Good morning, RISLEYDR98,

So, the Knock Sensor detects knock or detention. Detonation occurs when the air fuel mixture in the combustion chamber is igniting before the piston reaches Top Dead Center (TDC) and is damaging to the engine. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) will then take the signal from that sensor and adjust the engine timing.

Are there any other codes being shown? Like a misfire code or cam or crankshaft position code?

Does it seem to run rough, misfire, start hard or anything along those lines?

Also, where you get the sensor from can make a difference. They can be slammed around or just poor quality. Sensors and plugs always get from the dealer because the aftermarket one's cause problems more often than not.

I would get it from the dealer. Here is the part #25201064. Bring your VIN with you so they can double check the part number in their catalog as part numbers change almost constantly.

Also, when you installed it did you use any thread sealant? If so, this will impede sensor function and give a false reading setting the DTC.

The sensor also needs and should be torqued to 15 ft. Lbs. If it is not, it could cause this DTC as well.

Additionally, I looked to see if there were any Technical Service Bulletins or Recalls for your vehicle. I did not find any but if you want to send me your entire 17-digit VIN I can look a little deeper for you.

I am also attaching a diagnostic aid for your reference.

If I can help in any other way, please just reply to this message.

Thank you,
Brendon
