This morning my 2004 jeep grandcherokee started fine, but instantly idled up to about 4000rpms and slow came back down to about a normal 1000rpms ish. It drove fine, after letting sit for a few hours it start up with a real high idle again. Any ideas?

May need to clean out the throttle bore with carb cleaner and a rag, ifit gets too dirty the idle will go all over the place. Also inspect for any vacuum leaks and be sure the coolant level is correct. Has the check engine light come on when itis idling high?

It may have stored a code in memory. When the light comes on as it is acting up it is a good idea to have it scanned to see what failure the PCM sees
