I have a 91 jeep cherokee and just replaced the intake and exaust gasket but now I just started it right after and it goes and idles at 3500 to 4000 any answeres why this might happen?

You disconected the battery I assume.
Let it do this for a couple of days and it might straighten itself out.
If it doesn't check your throtle cables they might have gotten stretched or misaligned when you reinstalled them.
