Electrical problem
2002 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

We were having trouble starting the car this past week and this morning we turned the key in the ignition and all I heard was a sound like eehh and it wouldn't turn over and start. The other electrical stuff work like the radio and lights so I was wondering if it is need of a starter. Please answer as soon as possible as I have to get the car towed. Do you know how much it would cost approximately to replace a starter with labor?

The starter Bendix sounds like it has failed. I would also inspect the ring gear at this opportunity as a bad Bendix might damage or erode the ring gear. As to the labor for your Jeep, I would guess that you could price the parts yourself over the phone with any of the parts (Pep boys, Kragen, Autozone etc.) Stores. As far as the labor goes, I would guess that an hour ought to be plenty of time to install the starter but I am not a Jeep expert. There are several online labor estimating sites and I visited one the other day and was quite impressed, you may wish to sample several of them and average the results.
