My jeep will hold at 40psi oil pressure until I stop and let it idle then it will fall to less than 20psi, and sometimes I have take it out of gear and accelerate to get the oil pressure back up to 40psi. This is all according to the gauge. I have replaced the oil pressure sender. Also is there a saftey device to shut the engine off when the oil pressuse get to low on this model jeep.

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge at idle and 2K rpms then comeback with the readings-

I have a 2001, 160,000 miles, hooked up a mechnical gauge where I removed sending unit and I register very low PSI at idle, but when you get to 2,000 rpm it jumps to 25 psi, at 3,000 rpm it jumps to over 30 psi. I was told it was fine to drop low at idle, but it should be over 8 psi at 2,000 rpm. Your sending unit could be bad, I suggest putting a mechnicial unit in place of the sending unt to see what the pressure is. Even a working electrial unit will not rapidly react and report pressure.
