Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I put a 1998 motor in a 1996 jeep grand cherokee used all 1996 parts but when you go to start it it will run wide open even unhooked linkages it will also back fire but you can't let run because it would blow up. How do you reset the computer. My brother was mudding when he throw a rod throught the block so he had to have the rpms way up. Can you help got me puzzled. Thanks john

Theres a rod through the block? It wouldnt eeven run if thats the case. What seems to be the problem.

Vehicle running full open? If thats teh case take the air intake off of the throttle body and check to make sure the butterfly valve in the throttle body is closed.

You may want to take that off and check it. How high is the rpm of your engine?

If you want to reset your computer by the way you can disconnect it for 10 mins then hook it back up
