Hello, I'm not sure if I need a new battery or an alternator, my jeep now won't even hold the charge when we jump it. The car before was just running the lights very dim and if you shut if off say while getting gas it would take about 5 minutes to start back up but it would. We looked at the battery and it has a lot of white stuff where it connects. Also how much would either of these usually cost to fix.

Hi, I'd take the battery off, some of the national brand autostores will test the battery and charge it, if needed. You need to clean all battery connections on both ends. If you get it running, they will check the charging system also. I think it is best to test alternator/charging system on the vehicle.

If anything needs to be replaced, if you do the work yourself, the parts is the only cost.
