my 82 xjs will not pass the smog check I bought it in '06 and it was smoged a month earlier when I took it to smog it it failed it is a gross polluterthe following are the test results under HC(PPM)at 15 mph the GP is 308 and the MEAS is 769 at 25mph the GP is 243and the MEAS is 737 The results under CO%are at 15mph the GP is2.39 with the MEAS at1.55 and at 25mph the GP is 2.19 and the MEAS is 1.50Heres the last column marked NO(PPM) at 15 mpph the GP is 2145 and the MEAS is62 and at 25mph the GP is 1945 and the MEAS is 59

Ok I would do some basic stuff it looks like it is running rich. So check the air filter and check the oil if it is dirty change it. Does this car have a mass air flow unit? If it does then clean it with mass air flow cleaner and then put some seafoam in the gas tank and then see what it does. Oh pull a couple of spark plugs to see how bad they look are they all black and sooty looking or not. Let me know how it goes and what you find.
