Trooper 1995 3.2 127k. I just had rebuild the heads of the engine, however in the morning and for a few minutes the valves produce a hard noise. I have take the car to a mechanic but obviously when the car gets there the sound is gone and the mechanic has checked but dont find anithing abnormal. What could be the problem?

Hello,

You are correct in stating the noise is coming from your valvetrain.

In fact, it is your hydr. Lifters that are 'ticking' due to being oil starved, and therefore collapsing.

Isuzu is aware of this problem, and has a TSB on it. The solution is rather simple, and works; I have a 97' 3.2 Rodeo with the same problem, which is now resolved.

Step one: Change your oil and filter with the following: Filter: OEM ISUZU
Oil: 0W-30 MOBIL 1 Synthetic

After oil change, drive vehicle to warm up, and then in park, rev to 2500 RPM for 2 minutes.

Shut off engine, and repeat process until you notice the valve noise goes away after cold morning starts.

Sounds silly, but it works; The reason is the oil ports on the heads are too small and get clogged which reduced oil flow to the hydraulic valve lifters; So, on cold days the oil is thickened and never quite reaches the lifters through the clogged ports.

After trying this 'fix' continue to run 5W-30 oil in all temps, and ALWAYS use ISUZU brand filter.

Ciao!
