Hi, I was stopped and told that my rear taillight was out (left side). I had not noticed the notification on the dash just yet. When I did click around, it also said that my license plate light was out as well.

I went to NAPA, bought some bulbs, pulled everything apart (not an easy task in the renegade) and I installed he bulbs with gloves. To my dismay, my problem was not solved. Purchases more bulbs on a different day and reinstalled just In case and my light still didn’t work.

I had chalked it up as an electrical problem that I was hating to having to get checked out. Then I thought about it. If it was some crazy electric problem, I probably wouldn’t get a notification that my light was out, right? Meaning, my car wouldn’t recognize my light out if this was some weird electrical malfunction right?

So perhaps it’s the casing where the bulbs sit or the pigtail? There is a little singe where the pigtail connects to the casing that holds the bulb.

The problem is, if I buy the casing from the dealership and it’s not the problem, I cannot return it since it is considered an “electrical “ item.

So do you have a hunch?

Hello,

This is probably going to be a problem with your vehicle's Body Control Module (BCM). If you look at the wiring diagram of your vehicle's exterior lights that I have included for you in the diagrams down below, you can see that the license plate lamps only have two unshared wires in their circuits. The power is provided from the BCM and each side has a separate ground. The only way that this and the left tail lamp would fail at the same time would probably be the BCM. In the diagrams down below I have also included the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) part number as well as the removal and installation guide for your vehicle's BCM. Please go through these guides and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex
